SAP practice — Know what runs where

Remote server
The SAP application and database run in the provider’s environment. You do not build or maintain that server for an ordinary practice account.
Browser route
Supported Fiori and SAP GUI for HTML applications run through your browser using the supplied connection.
Desktop tools
An exercise may still need desktop SAP GUI or a development tool. Installing a client is different from installing the SAP server.

Connect using the right route

  1. Check the exercise

    Identify whether it names a Fiori app, browser transaction, SAP GUI or another tool.

  2. Open your portal guide

    Use the connection address and instructions supplied for your account.

  3. Set up only the required client

    If desktop software is needed, follow the supported setup guide for that tool.

  4. Test one authorised task

    Open an assigned record and confirm that the required action is available.

If something differs

A browser page opens but the task is unavailable

Check the exact app and role. A working connection is different from having the required application.

Your operating system does not support the tool

Check the tool’s supported platform and an approved alternative route before purchasing access for that exercise.
