SAP MM — Prepare the buying example
- Supplier and material
- Use a supplier and material with the required purchasing and plant data. Choose a stock-material exercise before adding more complex account assignments.
- Organisation and stock location
- Confirm the purchasing organisation, plant and storage location. Record the starting stock quantity.
- Dates and values
- Use an open posting period and the price, currency and tax treatment specified in your learning material.
Example: buy and receive 10 units
Enter the purchase order
Check supplier, material, quantity, price and delivery location. Keep the purchase-order number.
Record the receipt
Post the permitted receipt against the order and save the material-document reference.
Review the invoice
Compare the invoice quantity and value with the order and receipt before posting the exercise invoice.
Read the purchase-order history
Find all three records and inspect the stock and accounting impact that applies to your scenario.
If something differs
The receipt cannot be posted
Check order status, remaining quantity, plant, storage location and posting period.
The invoice is blocked
Review quantity or price differences and the configured tolerances. A block is a result to investigate, not a reason to repeat the invoice.
