Older SAP S/4HANA Releases: Practice Compatibility
Learning material written for an older SAP S/4HANA release, including 1909, 2020, 2021 or 2022, may depend on that exact release. ERP Server Access currently supplies SAP S/4HANA 2023 practice access; these older releases are not available from our store. Use this guide to check whether your exercises can be adapted before buying.
Start with the release your exercise requires
A successful SAP GUI or browser connection does not prove that the system matches your course. Check the product edition, release, application, permissions and starting records together. If an instructor requires a particular older release, choose an environment that explicitly confirms it.

Prepare one exercise for a compatibility check
- Name the system: record the SAP product, edition and release stated in your material.
- Identify the task: list the app or transaction and the business result you expect.
- List starting data: include the organisational units, master records and document references your exercise depends on.
- Check permissions: distinguish display, posting, configuration and development actions.
- Agree any adaptation: have your instructor confirm acceptable differences in screens, steps and results.
Share the requirements with our support team before purchase. Describe the exercise without sending passwords or confidential company records. A compatibility discussion does not guarantee that every course or app will work unchanged.
Example: an older purchasing exercise
If your lesson starts with a specific supplier, material and plant, a matching transaction name alone is insufficient. Check those records and the required organisational assignments, then compare the purchase order, receipt and invoice steps. If the required starting data or release-specific behaviour cannot be confirmed, resolve that with the course provider before selecting access.
What practice access is available here?
Our current paid offer is SAP S/4HANA 2023 practice-system access. Individual plans provide one named user on the shared system; Dedicated Client arrangements are described separately. Use your own learning material and confirm the exercise's apps, permissions and data. System access does not include a course, certification exam or a promised upgrade to another release.

Can I buy SAP S/4HANA 1909, 2020, 2021 or 2022 here?
No. Our current store offer is SAP S/4HANA 2023. This guide explains how to check older learning material against that offer.
Does buying a longer plan change the release?
No. A longer individual access duration does not change the underlying SAP release.
Can SAP GUI make a 2023 system behave like an older release?
No. SAP GUI is a connection interface. The connected system's software, configuration and data determine the exercise environment.
What if my material requires ECC or IDES instead?
Use the separate ECC requirements guide or IDES requirements guide. Do not assume that an S/4HANA login meets an ECC or IDES course requirement.
